ABSTRACT:

The Maidan was a turning point, consolidating the competitive nature of the Ukrainian political system and making Ukraine more Ukrainian in terms of nationality and identification with the state. The lecture will take a critical look at how the violence on the Maidan, from state and non-state actors, impacted how the Russia-Ukraine conflict has been framed—in Ukraine, among international stakeholders, and in academia.
