Transitional Financial Assistance for CUAET Visa Holders

What is transitional financial assistance?

As of June 2, 2022, Ukrainian CUAET visa holders can apply to receive a one-time direct payment from the Government of Canada to meet their immediate and essential needs as theysettle in Canada.

Who is eligible for transitional financial assistance?

All individuals approved under the CUAET who are in Canada and have in their possession avalid work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit or visitor record are eligible toapply. This is a universal payment to all CUAET visa holders, adults and children, and is not tiedto any means test.

How long will CUAET visa holders be able to access the one-time direct payment?

Eligible individuals will be able to apply for assistance until June 30, 2023.

How much is the one-time direct payment?

Eligible applicants will receive the one-time direct payment through direct deposit into theirCanadian bank account. Eligible adults (18 years and older at the time of the transitionalfinancial assistance application) will receive a direct deposit of CA $3,000 each, and CA $1,500 per child (17 years and under at the time of the transitional financial assistance application). It is our understanding that this one-time payment will not be considered to be taxable income by the Canada Revenue Agency.

How to Apply?

Applications must be submitted online through the Government of Canada’s online portal. This portal has detailed instructions re the application process.

What is needed to apply?

A bank account at a Canadian banking institution must be opened The bank account should be in the same name as the name of the adult’s temporaryresident visa status document (work permit, study permit, temporary resident permit orvisitor record). For families and guardians, it will be possible for a parent or guardian to submit anapplication on behalf of the entire family A SIN is not required to apply, however, a SIN is required to work in Canada and most Canadian banks will require a SIN for tax and reporting services

How long will the approval of payment process take?

Payments are expected to be issued through direct deposit within 5 business days of theapplication being submitted.

Have arrangements been made with Provincial and Territorial Governments to ensure thatthe one-time payment is not clawed back for those Ukrainians that need to access Provincial-Territorial income support programs?

Each Province and Territory is responsible for their respective social assistance and incomesupport programs. At this time, there is no clear answer to this question.

Webinars will be held on Wednesday June 8th, from 10 to 11:30 am for those located in Ontario eastward, and on Thursday June 9th from 2:30 to 4:00 pm for anyone in Manitoba andnorth/westward.
